3,000 telecom sites, measured and reported

Telecom Regulatory Authority · Sultanate of Oman · 2017 to present

The requirement

Every telecom site in Oman has to demonstrate that electromagnetic field levels around it stay within the limits set by ICNIRP and by Omani regulation. That cannot be modelled from a desk. It takes a trained team at each individual site with calibrated instruments, measuring in the places where people actually stand, and a report the regulator will accept without a second visit.

What TGO did

  • Site assessment and planning that identifies every emitting source present, including the ones the site record does not list
  • Field measurement of electric field, magnetic field and power density with calibrated instruments
  • Analysis against ICNIRP, FCC and Omani regulatory limits, with the applicable limit stated for each reading
  • A regulatory-ready compliance report issued per site
  • Re-measurement where a site is modified, so the record tracks the site as built rather than as first approved

A regulator does not hand its national measurement programme to a contractor it has to check. 4 contracts since 2017 is the whole argument.

Why it matters

EMF compliance is a public safety matter before it is a paperwork matter. The people who live and work next to a mast are the reason the limits exist, and an approval is only worth what the measurement behind it is worth. This is also the single largest EMF compliance measurement record held by any one contractor in Oman.
