The national cadastral database, and the first contract on the record
Ministry of Housing · Sultanate of Oman · 2002 to 2007
The requirement
A cadastre is the register of who owns which piece of land and exactly where its boundaries run. Getting that wrong is not a technical inconvenience: it is disputed title, stalled development and court cases. The Ministry needed the underlying geospatial database structured properly from the start, and a web application on top of it that people who are not GIS specialists could actually use.
What TGO did
- Consultancy on the structure of the cadastral geospatial database itself, before any data was loaded
- Development of the web-based application built on top of that database
- 5 years of continuous engagement, long enough to see the design tested by real use
3 years after the company was founded, a ministry handed it the structure of the national land register. That is a large amount of trust to place in a young firm.
Why it matters
Everything the company does now with spatial data traces back to this contract. It also sets the pattern the record repeats: engagements measured in years rather than months, and clients who come back. Where TGO is engaged on a database rather than a survey, the work is usually still running when the contract is renewed.
